Celebrating a legacy

Welcome to the first edition of Opening Solutions for 2024. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I'm Pete Connors, SVP and Head of ASSA ABLOY Australia, and I'm excited to share a bit about myself and our collective vision for the future. I recently returned to ASSA ABLOY, where I previously worked for over ten years in sales, marketing, and general management roles. I have a deep passion for our industry and market, and I can genuinely say that the spirit of ASSA ABLOY and its brands runs through my veins! Since then, I've held leadership roles as a General Manager, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Executive Officer, leading teams in businesses of significant scale. My priority has always been to drive growth, improve customer experiences, and implement programs that enhance efficiency. On a personal level, I’m an avid Collingwood supporter (don’t hold that against me!) And I enjoy spending time with my family and hiking. I look forward to taking the time to meeting you, our valued customers, in due course. In this edition’s cover story, we pay tribute to our Lockwood brand. This year we celebrate the legacy of this Australian icon, with 2024 being the 90 year anniversary of the company’s founding here in Melbourne, Victoria in 1934. In the modern era, Lockwood continues to innovate, with the Brass Core range offering the largest collection of customisable door handles to comply with Australian regulations for access and mobility. We are also thrilled to launch the Lockwood TwinX ® keying system, which follows the Gen6TX ® product launch last year. Both keying systems have extended patents through to 2036. Exciting news continues for the Yale brand, with our DualDoor™ technology now being compatible with all Yale Smart Locks (page 14). In the residential construction space, our team has collaborated with Mirvac on the pioneering Queensland Build To Rent projects Liv Anura and Quay Waterfront developments, which are bringing 396 much-needed rental apartments to the Brisbane market. You can discover our suite of solutions on page 17. With this good news and continuing success in mind, I feel honoured to return to ASSA ABLOY. SET TO REVOLUTIONISE THE INNER CITY RENTAL EXPERIENCE It has been ASSA ABLOY Opening Solutions Australia’s pleasure to work with the design team at MIRVAC Design on two unique developments in one of Brisbane’s waterfront communities at Newstead ( LIV Anura and Quay Waterfront ) and we look forward to partnering on future projects. of Brisbane’s first large scale residential projects of this nature that is set to revolutionise the inner-city rental experience.

Quay Waterfront is residential development and consists of 143 Luxury Riverside Apartments across 25 levels that have been sold off the plan. Both towers share a common green space and boasts a range of sustainable initiatives to enhance the liveability of the residence both owners and renters. Each development has unique design with a lively activated ground plane and dynamic façade expression of movement and depth.

LIV Anura is a residential development that has been delivered in partnership with the QLD Government as part of a “Build to Rent” pilot project that is a direct response to the Inner-city housing shortage in Brisbane. The project consists of 396 apartments across 25 levels that will be exclusively for renters. It is one

A lot of considerations were made in selecting the appropriate door hardware to compliment the very design rich interiors of the common areas within both towers. Mirvac Design are renowned for their high-end architectural designs and forward thinking on how the occupants will use the spaces. Access control has also been an important element of this project to ensure safety and security while allowing the buildings residents to experience a very modern way of living without restriction within the densely occupied inner city suburb of Newstead. Upcoming Mirvac Developments in Brisbane also includes the Brisbane Racing precinct at Hamiliton.

North Rocks Shopping Centre SL500 with ADS-F Intrusion Protection System

NORTH ROCKS SHOPPING CENTRE UTILISES ASSA ABLOY SL500 INTRUSION PROTECTION SYSTEM TO PROVIDE GREATER SECURITY AFTER TRADING HOURS.

With concerns for night-time security on one of their main external doors, the owners of North Rocks Shopping Centre engaged Architectural firm i2C to nominate a suitable solution that would be able to meet the demands of a high pedestrian traffic area in a seamless, safe and secure design. They specified the ASSA ABLOY SL500 automatic sliding door operator with Intrusion Protection System door framing, due to its clean and versatile design and advanced security features. The sliding door operator was mounted to a newly installed aluminium shopfront, with the door panels and sidelights utilising the IPS framing. The end result was not only an aesthetically pleasing solution, but also a very practical one with the SL

Intrusion Protection System providing enhanced security against forced entry and vandalism. This was achieved by the core features of this system - interlocking door profiles with locating pins, recessed floor track, strengthened electromechanical locking and 9.52mm assault glass. Concealed Fix Offset Panic Bolts ASSA ABLOY Opening Solutions is excited to announce an update to our Lockwood 781/791 Series Panic Bolts. It will now have concealed fix offset panic bolts added to complete the offering range with options to suit all applications. Lockwood 781/791 Series Panic Bolts are generally used on the inactive leaf of double doors or doors where there is no need for primary egress. Combining the feature of concealed fixing with an offset bolt, the new concealed fix offset panic bolt is offered in the lengths of 450mm and 600mm. Single action bolt with positive locking into keeper at the top or bottom of the door. When fixed to the door the bolt is supported by a high grade stainless steel spring which holds the bolt in the locked position. Standard bolt throw of 50mm. Bolt material being highest grade brass, Security with Durability is achieved undoubtedly.
